Sway - Level Up

Sway returns in style with his brilliant new single ‘Level Up’ on 2nd April through 3 Beat Records. The track was Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record In The World yesterday as well as getting the seal of approval from MistaJam.

Never one to conform to the norm, Sway constantly looks for ways to stand out from the crowd and he will have heads and ears turning with his latest offering. Combining Flux Pavilion’s speaker-oscillating dubstep production with Sway’s signature lyrical word-play and newcomer Kelsey McHugh’s soulful vocals on the hook, ‘Level Up’ brings a unique sonic to the table.

“The song is about winning, elevation, going from one stage in your life to a better one,” explains Sway. “I wanted to the capture that moment and that feeling we get when we feel like we've achieved something that will change your life.”

The collaboration with Flux Pavillion came about when Sway was introduced to the producer’s music by 1Xtra’s Semtex. Making contact with the producer via Facebook, Sway discovered Flux was a fan and within weeks the pair were working in the studio together.

Sway ended 2011on a high. His single ‘Still Speedin’ became his biggest hit to date charting in the top 20 in the middle of the Christmas chart battles. It was an incredible achievement for Sway. ‘Still Speedin’ also became Sway’s biggest radio record to date making playlists across the country.

The anthemic nature of the single made it a favourite for soundbeds on TV shows from Soccer AM to the Grand Prix and even BBC One’s light entertainment show, Winter Wipeout. “It’s taken a while to get this overall acclaim but it just goes to show that persistence is always the way forward,” says Sway.

Sway is currently putting the finishing touches to his album ‘Deliverance.’ It will be released later this year and comes 6 years since his debut, the Mercury Music Prize nominated ‘This Is My Demo.’

The band’s eclectic mix of roots drum and bass, hard driving vocal melodies, and smooth guitar tone gives the band an edge on today’s versatile music scene. Originating in St. Thomas Virgin Islands, BADMAN quickly rose to the top of the local music scene becoming the "island’s mightiest band". Sharing the stage with such notable reggae artists as Steel Pulse and Third World and achieving daily rotation on “104.3 The Buzz” has shown not only that they are talented musicians, but are also dedicated professionals. BADMAN has proven their quality and are easily on the fast track to becoming one of the decade’s most original bands.

BADMAN was formed in 2009 when Jonathan Cordero of the National touring band “Green Lemon” was producing and vocal coaching at an island based recording studio. He began collaborating with Zan Llaneza who was working as an engineer at the same studio. Zan was playing in a rock cover band with drummer Rob Trainor formerly of Zia (Fifth Column Records) who he asked to come aboard. In need of a bass player Jonathan turned to long time friend David Gillaspie whose musical roots lie in the west coast punk scene. After relocating to Florida in early 2011, BADMAN met and added percussionist Owen Aschoff, adding yet another level of depth to the band. Wrapping up a productive 2011, BADMAN finished the year with an eight city southeastern tour in December. 2012 is off to a great start heading back to where it all began in St. Thomas, USVI. Embarking on a quick tour, sponsored by “Stoli Vodka” and “Evolution Surf & Skate”. In the interest of always keeping things new and exciting. BADMAN played an epic show aboard the “Kon Tiki”, the world’s largest glass bottom boat/barge. “Dongdan” is the first single from a new album’ The Beijing Gang’ by producer and composer Chris Bemand. Chris has released many innovative electronic albums since his early days with acid jazzstersMarden Hill and filmic Chill Out group 45 Dip. He has collaborated with Ashley Beedle ( Ballistic Brothers/Xpress 2) Rob Dougan,(Clubbed to Death) and Mark Doyle (Hed Kandi) . As well as a large discography, Chris has written and produced countless scores for all kinds of TV shows including mainstream cartoon series, Bafta nominated Skunk Fu! and King Arthur's Disasters. He’s also known for writing choral stings for top shows including the X-Factor and Top Gear.

Dongdan is a clever, quirky fusion of classical Chinese instruments paired with contemporary beats as has ever been heard before. Chris recorded in Beijing with a handful of virtuoso musicians from Peking Opera and the resulting blend is original and unique. Chris also worked with film director Ed Bignell to produce a series of promotional videos (shot in Beijing) to accompany each single release.

Introducing ‘Beggin’, the new release by Project Alfie. Project Alfie’s new track Beggin’ effortlessly emits the cool, distinguishable style and sound that is quickly becoming synonymous with the soul and hip-hop crossover artist.

The epic, emotionally wrought track was released on the Universal Compilation R&B Collection 2012, which marked Project Alfie as the only unsigned act to be featured on the album. Following its release, it became the most downloaded track on the album during its first week on iTunes.

The video for Beggin has since been filmed, and is artistically cohesive with the idiosyncratic image created by Project Alfie. It has been directed by the renowned Paul Gardner of JJ Stereo, whose work includes videos for Kasabian, Plan B and Mr. Hudson. The video smoothly incorporates much of the style that is naturally radiated by the soul singer.

Set in London, the video for Beggin follows the captivating star through busy streets, voyeuristically capturing the essence of the distinctive Project Alfie. His star quality is obvious from the instant the video begins to play, and the story of Beggin begins to unfold. The direction of the video beautifully entwines with the lyrics of the song and heart of the melody, combining to create a complete and succinct work of art.

Since the release of Beggin and the rest of The Project Alfie Mixtape, Alfie has since been invited to New York by The Hitmen (Jay-Z, Nas, Mary J Blige, Notorious BIG). What began as an ambitious project, has quickly and elegantly transformed into a beautifully finished and theatrically stylised act that makes Project Alfie one to watch for 2012.
