smoke em if ya got em

Do you know what it means in the Torah (Bible) when it says that Moses spoke to a burning bush? It doesn’t say; a tree, or a rock, or a person, or an alligator (although that would have kicked ass), it specifically says “bush”. It means old Mo’s was hanging with the shrubbery. Two of the most powerful religions in the world are based on a dude who was tired of a bunch of whining Jews and decided to go up in the hills and smoke a little ‘erb to quiet his frazzled nerves. It is amazing what you can create when you’re hanging with the shrubbery.

Rock on Mo’s

Yada yada yada

I cleaned the studio today. It was a daylong affair. I only get around to this every three months so… it was a bit messy to say the least. I have heard that there are people who must have order in their creative space and there are also those that can only be creative in a chaotic space; I do not notice the space. I should say I do not notice the space until I am tripping over it and then it bothers me. I clean when I am not feeling very creative (as has been the case lately) and I need a clean space to gather my thoughts and begin the next round with the muse.

My band 105 Tangents is in the process of writing and recording the last few songs for our new CD “3rd” which should be out sometime soon. This past Saturday night was a big party with old friends and new ones stopping by the studio for a jam session that went on well in to the next morning so we didn’t get much work done – I guess we needed a break.

My favorite punk band Surreal has been hard at work finishing up the tracks for their debut CD. I know everyone who likes it loud, proud and in your face is going to really dig these guys. Dru says what’s on his mind no matter whose “politically correct” toes he is trampling on and I love him for it. I will post something from them soon, I promise.

My other favorite project (you can have more than one) AMPFEAR is continuing to find its creative balance. Brian sends me cool stuff almost daily and I try to find out how far on the creative limb I can climb before I fall. It is a challenge to go from a very traditional songwriting/arranging background to a “no holds barred” creative situation. My “conservative” arrangement style keeps tugging at me and I keep trying to ignore it.

A pending project that I am very excited about has presented itself recently in the form of a gent named _________. (Damn it I can’t tell you his name until the ink dries on the paper). Anyway this project will be co-writing and hopefully producing a new CD for this mystery artist. I can’t wait.

My solo stuff will continue to sit on three hard drives on a shelf in the closet until… who knows. Maybe by Christmas?

Now, I guess I need to get to work.

Hope all is well with you,

Lane

Seed my creative soul
Posted On 03/28/2008 03:17:49

I hate these times when I do not feel so creative. I sit and stare at the monitor, I twiddle my thumbs, I write in my blog. Ideas flitter in and out but none land in the trap that I have laid for them. If I am very quiet and still maybe they will not notice me waiting here… waiting for them to light my darkened mind, to seed my creative soul, to sow some new idea in this fertile ground.

March 24 - snowing in the South
Posted On 03/24/2008 19:52:22

It has been snowing all day - March the 24th in the Central South and it is snowing. The grass is green, Spring flowers are coming up, the trees are budding but the sky, in defiance of it all, is shedding the last of its wintry mix. The ground retaliated early by warming up so that the snow could not "lay". The sky tried to put down a thin coat but the ground was just too powerful and in the end all it got was wet. It is fun to watch nature battle it out.

Hope you have been equally entertained by some quirk of nature or human today.

Let's call it a testing ground...

I love the internet... don't you? Where else can a nobody, no name like myself get international attention (however meager it might be) while I sit comfortably in my little studio, hanging with the shrubbery, eatin' cheetos, worshiping the moon? What would I have to do to get this kind of attention from the t.v. networks, radio, newspaper - kill someone or write better songs and I am capable of neither. So I turn to the internet, the only mass media outlet starved enough for content that they will let anyone post – and that decision has made all the difference.

I am actually quite excited about this medium because it is bringing regional music back in a big way. For too long the record companies have been jamming their version of entertainment down our collective throats, spending millions hyping everything but the music. Now music is back in the hands of the starving masses, the zero talent punks like me who only want to share our soul with you and maybe some cheetos.

What I am trying to say is thanks… thanks for finding me in this vast expanse of information, entertainment and porn, for checking me out when there are so many more that need checking out, for holding my hand in the snow so that I won’t fall, thanks for everything.

Your Loving Brother

Let me please introduce myself...
Posted On 03/21/2008 00:06:29

I am an amateur producer/engineer/songwriter/musician with my own studio and too much free time. I live in a small town in the southeastern U.S. and through my studio I connect with a multitude of musical misfits, poets and prophets to create my own unique brand of ear noise. Lowest of the lo-fi, garage rock, hillbilly blues - and that only scratches the surface. If you feel so inclined stop by and give me a listen, let me know what you think - I can take it.

Peace Love and Happiness to you
